Essential Oils

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts which capture the very essence of a plant’s scent. They are made by steaming or pressing various parts of the plant like its flowers, leaves, fruit or bark. Essential oils are highly valued for their therapeutic effects on the mind and body, also known as aromatherapy. When we inhale the scent molecules from essential oils, they travel from the olfactory nerves of our nose right to the emotional center of the brain - the amygdala. As such, we have taken great care to ensure that the essential oils you add to your Mylumi candles are of the finest and purest quality. They are never diluted and no synthetic additives have been added to enhance its fragrance. They are as pure as nature intended.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang ylang is a yellow, star-shaped flower that grows on the Cananga Odorata tree. This tropical species is native to countries surrounding the Indian Ocean and our oil comes from the Comoros Islands, just off the coast of Madagascar.

Our ylang ylang essential oil is derived from the ylang ylang flower and it has a seductive, sweet fragrance which is flowery and rich. It is known to calm the mind and comfort the body.

Sandalwood Essential Oil

Our premium sandalwood essential oil comes from Western Australia, where the Forests Products Commission (FPC) manages the sustainable harvesting of sandalwood forests. It is a much more sustainable alternative to its common counterpart santalum album from India. 

Sandalwood is beloved for its exotic, woody and rich aroma and for its deeply calming and grounding effects.

Vetiver Essential Oil

We get our vetiver from the island of Java in Indonesia. In Java vetiver is called ‘akar wangi’ or ‘fragrant root’. Vetiver essential oil is golden amber in colour and very thick with a wonderfully complex fragrance profile. It has an earthy, green, woody and yet slightly fresh fragrance with a soft smoky undertone. You might be reminded of standing in a forest after the rain.

Geranium Essential Oil 

Our luxurious geranium essential oil comes from Egypt. It has a floral rose-like fragrance with leafy and herbal notes. Geranium essential oil has a balancing effect on the nervous system and relieves depression and anxiety, stress, while balancing and lifting the spirits.

Mandarin Essential Oil

Red Mandarin is grown in the warm Sicilian fields of Italy. Thanks to the ample Mediterranean sunshine, it is aromatically superior to its South American counterparts and it is definitely worth its higher cost.

Red Mandarin essential oil comes from the peel of the fully ripened mandarin fruit and is harvested between June and September. It is darker in color than regular mandarin and has a sweet, citrusy, and slightly floral aroma. It is the sweetest of all the citrus oils with a floral undertone.
