At Mylumi, providing you a lovely candle making and candle burning experience lies at the heart of everything we do. This is why we have taken so much care every step of the way. Our ingredients are sustainably sourced and biodegradable,  the aromatherapy essential oils for your wellbeing are blended from only pure natural essential oils and the wicks we have chosen are 100% lead-free. You can rest assured that you will not only have a meaningful candle-making experience, but you can enjoy your Mylumi candle with a peace of mind.

Sustainable, renewable and biodegradable ingredients with Mylumi

Mylumi offers an exclusive vegan blend of coconut and rapeseed wax as a base for your candles, which is free of paraffin, palm oil, beeswax and other synthetic additives. It fulfills the requirements of the RAL German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labelling which ensures that the coconut and rapeseed used to produce the wax are grown responsibly and are free from pollutants.

Coconut wax and rapeseed wax are derived from coconut oil and rapeseed oil respectively via a natural process. Both are high yield crops and renewable resources, which means that no rainforests or natural environments need to be ruined. Furthermore, coconuts and rapeseed are biodegradable and, unlike soy, are not genetically modified. They are both all-natural, non-toxic and burn slowly and cleanly. On their own they have no smell and because both wax types blend seamlessly with essential oils, our wax blend throws fragrance beautifully.

As I was looking for suitable fragrances for the candle boxes, it was of utmost importance to me that the oils I offer are of the highest quality and completely natural. Therefore, for the luxury Aromatherapy collection, I have chosen 100% pure essential oils for a natural, non-obtrusive fragrance with noteworthy aromatherapy benefits. Thanks to the exclusive pure essential oil blends, your home will smell naturally good while you imagine walking in the lavender fields of Provence or exploring the rainforests of Southeast Asia, as all of our oils come directly from the leaves, flowers, fruits and bark of plants.  

Pure natural essential oils are precious and very expensive, but I would love to make the relaxing and rewarding Mylumi candle-making experience possible for everyone. Therefore in addition to the Aromatherapy candle boxes, I am pleased to offer the Natural Fragrances collection. The high-quality fragrance oils used in these candle boxes may not be as costly as essential oils, but they are still made from only 100% natural and sustainably-sourced ingredients and, like our essential oils, are completely vegan and free from animal-testing. No synthetic additives or artificial fragrance enhancers are ever used. This means their fragrances are wonderfully complex while being naturally light so that your home smells wonderful.

Our wicks are free of lead

And we didn’t stop there. Even the wick we have chosen for your candle has been carefully thought through. It is made of cotton for the best heat distribution to ensure an even melting of the candle wax. But more importantly, our wicks are free from harmful substances such as lead.

In order to understand why we have gone to such lengths, allow us to share some facts of the current candle market with you. 

Current mass candle market dominated by petroleum derived wax

Due to its low cost, most candles on the market are made of paraffin wax which is a derivation of petroleum. It has been scientifically proven that the harmful gases released into the air when burning these paraffin candles, such as toluene and benzene, are linked to asthma and lung cancer.

Over 90% of soybean crops in US are genetically modified

As a result, soy candles are becoming more common, especially from craft candle makers, as a healthier alternative to paraffin candles. However, depending on where the soy wax is sourced, it could still emit dangerous chemicals into the air when burned. This is because over 90% of soybean crops from the United States are genetically modified and grown using pesticides.

Synthetic fragrance oils are a cheap favourite

Furthermore, soy wax is denser than paraffin wax which lowers its ability to release fragrance. This means candle makers need to add more fragrance oils to soy wax to achieve the same intensity of fragrance released by paraffin wax. Therefore, cheap synthetic fragrance oils with chemical additives are often used since only a small amount is needed for an overpowering scent.

Alas, all this information left us rather dismayed. We could have offered what most candle makers offer and make the same fat profit margin, but this was never an option for us as we would not even want to burn our candles in our own home!

We decided to give up some of that margin and instead source for more responsible and higher quality materials to offer you a better and healthier option. After more research, speaking to various experts and making countless test candles, we finally came up with a final product which we are truly proud of.
